US Celebrities Release Video Urging The Taliban To Give Up Control Of Afghanistan

CHARM OFFENSIVE: The international military operation in Afghanistan might have failed to install democracy into the war torn country, but now the fight is being taken up by a group of US celebrities.

Several of Hollywood’s biggest names have released an 18 minute video on Twitter, urging the Taliban to relinquish control of the country.

“Please Taliban, lay down your arms,” says Justin Bieber. “Terrorism achieves nothing except death and destruction. Do what you know deep down is the right thing to do.”

The decision to pull U.S. troops out of Afghanistan was part of an agreement former President Donald Trump forged with the Taliban in February 2020.

But today the militant group seized control of the capital Kabul, and huge swathes of the country, leaving question marks over the safety and human rights of Afghan civilians.

“Democracy is the only way forward,” says Tom Hanks in the video. “Please retreat from Kabul and allow your democratically elected President to resume control.”

“We’re all in this together.”

Among the other eight celebrities appearing in the video are the often politically active Oprah Winfrey and Taylor Swift.

However it remains unclear if the Taliban leaders have seen the video, or if they know any of the people who appear in it.

“Send us a video with Kim Kardashian in it, and then we’ll talk,” says one Taliban leader.
