Eastern suburbs woman forced to quit full-time job, so she can stay home and focus on returning all the items she’s purchased online
RETURN TO SENDER: A local woman has resigned from her lucrative marketing position to dedicate herself entirely to managing the returns of her extensive online shopping habit.
“Between re-boxing items, and waiting in line at the post office, I simply couldn’t keep up with working nine to five,” Harriet Wickers told DBT.
What began as a harmless pastime during lockdown escalated into a daily routine of purchasing items from luxury fashion sites, and home décor stores.
“I love the thrill of online shopping and the anticipation of a parcel arriving,” she says.
However she also admits to DBT that around 95% of her purchases arrive as the wrong colour or size.
“Our spare room has become filled with unwanted items,” she says.
“That’s why I need to finally get around to returning them.”
The 32 year old Paddington woman has also started a blog to help others optimise their online shopping and returning experience.
“I’m across every retailer’s policy, including all the loopholes and exceptions.”
“There’s a real need for guidance out there.”
And she remains non-committal about returning to the workforce.
“Maybe someday,” she mused. “But for now, I’m committed to mastering the ebb and flow of online commerce.”
“Plus, I’ve got my eye on a new lamp that I’m pretty sure I’ll want to send back.”
