Bondi man calls the Westpac Rescue Helicopter Service after falling asleep on the train and waking up in Redfern
RUDE AWAKENING: A routine morning train ride to the CBD for work has ended in near tragedy for one Bondi man.
Liam Fitzpatrick was on his way to Town Hall station, when he fell asleep on the train and woke up on the other side of the city at Redfern station.
“Come and save me, quick!” he said, panicking, while on the phone Westpac Rescue Helicopter service.
“I don’t feel safe here.”
The Westpac Rescue Helicopter service is typically reserved for coastal rescues and serious emergencies.
But they decided to make an exception, given Liam Fitzpatrick’s level of distress.
“After we landed in a nearby park, we found him anxiously pacing the footpath,” said one of the rescue workers.
“He kept asking us if he needs a passport to get back to Bondi.”
The 32 year old marketing executive was airlifted to safety and dropped off on the grass area near Bondi Beach.
“I immediately went to Oakberry for a smoothie to drown my sorrows and reflect on my near death experience,” he told DBT.
“It was the most terrifying ordeal of my life.”
