Anthony Albanese phones Spain’s PM, offering to bring some of the migrants from Morocco to Australia

STRATEGIC INTAKE: Australia’s Prime Minister contacted his Spanish counterpart Pedro Sánchez a short time ago, offering to bring some of the Moroccan migrants flooding in Ceuta to Australia.

“We’re a compassionate country,” Anthony Albanese explained. “Particularly in electorates with a margin below three per cent.”

The PM reportedly became particularly enthusiastic after learning many of the migrants were young adults, immediately asking whether any had expressed an interest in living in Tony Burke’s seat in Western Sydney.

Labor officials say priority will be given to anyone willing to enrol before they’re eligible to vote in four years.

Albanese has rejected suggestions the offer was politically motivated, insisting the migrants would be completely free to vote for whichever Labor candidate they preferred.
