“$6.50 for a coffee is an absolute joke,” says Vaucluse man who just got back from two months gallivanting around Saint-Tropez and the Amalfi Coast

BEAN COUNTER: A Sydney man has returned from a two-month sojourn through the French Riviera and Amalfi Coast with strong views on local coffee pricing.

“The sheer audacity of a $6.50 flat white has left me rattled,” Steve Carrick-Costa told DBT. “How is anyone meant to afford living in Sydney?”

Asked if he paid more than $6.50 for a coffee at any point during his trip, Carrick-Costa said: “It’s different when you’re travelling, you don’t even think about it.”

Friends he travelled with confirm he definitely didn’t think about it, nor the $1400-a-night for the Airbnb, or the $280 per person four-course lunches he said at the time was “good value actually.
