Woolworths announce tough new limit on how many mangoes shoppers can squeeze before committing to one

SQUEEZE QUOTA: With mango season in full swing, Woolworths today announced that shoppers will be limited to squeezing no more than three mangoes before making their selection.

“So for example if you’re shopping with one other person, you can squeeze 6 mangoes between you,” says a Woolworths spokesperson.

The supermarket giant says the new limit aims to ease heavy congestion of shoppers around its mango sections.

“Our internal data shows the average customer is squeezing 5.3 mangoes per visit,” says the spokesperson.

“People are just taking way too long to choose, and often they squeeze too hard, spoiling the fruit.”

But some consumers, like local shopper Mark Williams, say three squeezes isn’t enough.

“Finding a good mango is an art form,” he says.

“Typically I need to gently squeeze 8 or 9 of them to make an informed decision.”

“It’s not our fault most of their mangoes are poor quality.”

Either way, staff are now on hand in Woolworths supermarkets around the country, making sure shoppers adhere to the new rule, and fining them $87 if they don’t.

“Anyone who touches more than 3 mangoes will be fined and politely asked to move on from the immediate vicinity around the mango stand,” says Woolworths.

Coles is expected to follow suit.
