Sydney’s Kings Cross once thrived during and after WWII with thousands of American troops in the area.
But two US Marines visiting Kings Cross last night say they were bitterly disappointed.
“We pretty much just ended up at McDonalds, then we went back on our ship at Garden Island,” says one of the men. “We were asleep by 10.30pm.”
The pair are visiting Sydney for two weeks, after being stationed in Afghanistan for the last 6 months.
“We miss the nightlife in Afghanistan,” one of the men told DBT. “At least in Kabul people actually go out at night.”
Kings Cross nightlife has been decimated by the controversial 1.30am lock out laws.
“It was weird there,” says one of the Marines. “It was just a collection of fast food and souvenir stores. What an absolute embarrassment for your country.”
