Randwick City Council announces shark nets to be installed at the Coogee Bay Hotel to protect patrons this summer

FEEDING FRENZY: Randwick City Council will install a large shark net in the Coogee Bay Hotel beer garden following a surge in aggressive activity.

The net will allow female patrons to relax and enjoy time with their friends on one side, while groups of sharks circle on the other.

“We’ve seen a spike in shark-related activity around dusk, particularly after two or three schooners,” said a council spokesperson.

Authorities say the sharks typically hunt in packs and will repeatedly approach the same woman despite clear signs of disinterest.

A small trial was conducted last weekend, although several sharks attempted to climb over the net while shouting, “Come on, we’re actually really nice guys.”

Woollahra Council is now facing growing calls to install a similar net in the Golden Sheaf beer garden.
