Australia’s ‘massage parlours’ will remain open, despite a national lockdown aimed at stopping the spread of COVID-19.
“These parlours are offering essential services,” says Prime Minister Scott Morrison. “In these difficult times, there’s a lot of pent up stress out there. People need relief.”
The PM announced last night that pubs, clubs, restaurants, cafes, gyms and places of worship will close from noon today.
“But we’ve decided that massage parlours need to remain open,” says Scott Morrison. “They create a lot of stimulus which also flows through into the broader economy.”
The massage industry is welcoming the news.
“We thought we’d have to close,” says Henry Lee, CEO of the NSW Massage Association. “Hopefully this virus will pass soon and we can all have a happy ending.”
