SCREEN TIME: Growing numbers of Australian millennials are joining blind people in using guide dogs to help lead them around town.
“It’s so convenient,” says Lilly Marsh. “I can keep texting, checking social media and playing Wordle etc, without having to look up from my phone.”
The 28 year old estimates the guide dog saves her at least 45 minutes a day.
“I used to have to look up every few seconds to make sure I wasn’t about to walk into someone or something,” she says.
“That meant that it took me so much longer to do things on my phone.”
She shares her guide dog with a blind man who lives nearby.
“Obviously if he and I are going out at the same time, he’ll get precedence.”
But she hasn’t ruled out getting her very own guide dog soon.
“It’s the way of the future,” she says.
