STAND OFF: As the evening fast approaches, Silvie Bolton’s anxiety is rising.

“I’m still desperately hoping my friend Holly cancels our dinner plans,” she says. “It’s Tuesday night and I just want to stay home and watch MAFS.”

At 4.30pm Ms Bolton has told herself she’ll wait another 30 minutes before canceling the plans herself.

“The problem is I cancelled last time, so tonight it’s her turn,” she told DBT. “I’m starting to worry that maybe she does actually want to hang out.”

Ms Bolton is checking her phone every 30 seconds.

“If she texted through a cancellation right now, I’d be the happiest person alive.”
