Local man erects a CoolCabana on Campbell Parade to reserve himself a prime car parking spot for the beach this weekend
POLE POSITION: A Darlinghurst man has devised a controversial plan to secure himself a good parking space ahead of his visit to Bondi Beach this weekend.
Mark Graham has set up a CoolCabana and a couple of beach chairs in a vacant spot on Campbell Parade.
“I’ll just leave it in place until I decide to come to the beach, on either Saturday or Sunday,” he told DBT.
“I’ll just wait to see which day has the better weather.”
Critics, including the Prime Minister, say his plan is ‘unAustralian.’
“That car spot could be used by literally hundreds of motorists between now and the weekend,” says Anthony Albanese.
“Campbell Parade car spaces are there for everyone.”
But Mr Graham has told DBT he won’t back down from his plan, vowing to leave the beach shelter in place.
“If people can use Cabanas to reserve spaces on the beach, surely I can do it on the street,” he said.
“It’s going to save me at least two hours driving around on the weekend looking for a half decent parking spot.”
