Ever since he was a teenager James Watkins wanted to get into politics.
Now the 34 year old has done just that, settling the decades-old US guns debate with a single Facebook status update.
In it he wrote:
“In the wake of the latest shootings in Texas and Ohio, US leaders need to sort out their differences like mature adults. Too many lives have been lost. Too many tears shed.”
Minutes after the status update was posted, leaders gathered for emergency talks in Washington, where tougher gun laws were put in place.
“We are eternally grateful for Mr Watkins’ insightful & heartfelt status update,” says US President Donald Trump. “We’ve been crying out for this kind of guidance for decades.”
Double Bay Today was fortunate enough to secure an exclusive interview with James Watkins.
“I never thought my status update would have such a strong and immediate impact,” he says. “To be honest, I did the post mainly to show my Facebook friends that I’m a compassionate person who is somewhat familiar with the gun debate.”
The Enmore resident says he’s now considering quitting his job selling insurance to pursue a career in politics.
More to come.
