Eastern suburbs man cancels his upcoming Euro trip after learning his flight departs from Western Sydney International Airport

STAYCATION: A Bondi man has abruptly cancelled an upcoming Euro trip after learning his flight to France is departing from the soon-to-open Western Sydney International Airport at Badgerys Creek.

“I’m fine with a 22-hour flight to Europe,” Trent Ashworth-Foley told DBT.

“But i’m just not up for a 90-minute Uber to somewhere I’ve only ever heard mentioned in traffic reports.”

The 34 year old had been planning the trip since February, when he locked in three weeks across the Basque Country, the Amalfi Coast and “a few days in Monaco, just to decompress.

Ashworth-Foley confirmed he has since cancelled the booking, forfeiting a non-refundable deposit, and is currently exploring if he can fly Emirates out of Kingsford Smith via Dubai, adding 19 hours to his total travel time.

“It’s not ideal,” he said. “But it’s the right call.”

“If not I’ll just stay in Sydney, with a couple of lunches at Catalina and a quick trip to Byron if needed.”
