TAKING A TOLL: A promising five-year relationship has come to an abrupt end after the state government raised tolls for the Sydney Harbour Bridge and Tunnel for the third time in as many years.

“I’m really sorry babe, it’s not you, it’s me,” Mark Highgate-Johns told his girlfriend as she sobbed in the front seat of his BMW X5.

Drivers now pay $4.55 to cross the Harbour during peak times, up 13% since the Minns government took office.

“At first I thought we could make it work, but I’ve crunched the numbers and the upside no longer justifies the recurring cost,” said the 31 year old financial analyst.
