City2Surf runner defeated by Heartbreak Hill, despite $300 neon Hokas, latest Alo activewear and a full face of Mecca makeup
ALL THE GEAR: A Sydney woman’s 2026 City2Surf campaign has come to an abrupt end after Heartbreak Hill proved too much.
Witnesses say Genevieve Ashworth-Pine looked extremely confident at the start of the race, having spent most of Saturday evening preparing everything she would need for the gruelling 14km event.
However, the wheels began to fall off shortly after entering Rose Bay, when she discovered the $300 Hokas were unable to carry her up the hill.
“I did everything right, I had the perfect outfit,” she said, stopping with her hands on her hips.
After several minutes of recovery, Genevieve eventually continued at walking pace while using her phone camera as a mirror to check that her makeup was still intact.
“I trained really hard for this,” she said. “I even wore the Hokas around Westfield twice.”
